Wednesday Walks
Every Wednesday morning at 10 o’ clock a group of walkers sets off from Kirkcudbright car park for a walk in the local area. There is a mini-bus for transport which enables us to visit a number of interesting and scenic places around Gatehouse, Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas. Here’s the group heading out for a circuit from Crossmichael.
After the walk there is usually a visit to a cafe for tea, coffee and refreshments. This is the group at Threave Gardens cafe after the Crossmichael walk.

Garden Progress
Down at the bottom of the garden there is an overgrown bank which has the potential to be quite a good site for some more decorative plants. It faces south and is reasonably sheltered. Here are a couple of pictures of work in progress. There will be a stone wall across the top to separate the bed from the upper level. There were some snowdrops and daffodils in amongst the nettles, brambles and ground elder so I tried to keep them.
Almost done with the heavy digging. Just need to put in the edging and walling then plant it up. I’ll post an update when we have a few plants established.
Ski Trip
We had a trip to Madonna di Campiglio in the Italian Dolomites with a group of people that we had previously skied with quite a few years ago. It was our first outing on skis for four years so it was a bit of a shock to our legs. Our party was staying in two different hotels but we managed to meet up at various points during the day, especially for coffee and lunch stops. Here are some of the group, poised at the top of the resort, with the Groste Pass and the Brenta Dolomites in the background.

One day was very windy and it closed down some of the ski lifts. You can see the snow being blown off the Brenta peaks.
We found some good food up in the mountain restaurants. Gabrielle’s spinach dumplings were very popular.
